Most of Persona 5 Royal ‘s new content appears right after the final dungeon in the original game which gives players another “Third Semester” of school from December to January which offers up to 30 hours of gameplay. Boss battles and palaces have also been reworked to make each encounter more unique and memorable from a gameplay perspective. The Phantom Thieves now have a grappling hook which allows you to infiltrate new areas you otherwise couldn’t. In terms of new characters, we’ve got Kasumi, an aspiring gymnast, and Maruki, the school counselor. Both have compelling backstories which help them become as intriguing and likable as the main cast. The new characters even receive their own Confidants who are engaging and quite funny.

Persona 5 Royal adds Kichijoji as a new area with new activities such as playing darts and pool to improve your abilities. Customizing your own personal Thieves Den was enjoyable and acts as a great way to hang out and take a break from the story. There are also several new music tracks in Royal and for the most part, they’re quite enjoyable. As expected with this type of release, some minor gameplay tweaks and QOL improvements where implemented to make the overall experience smoother.
